The Barcham Family

Heather Elaine Barcham

Heather is the daughter of Frank and Edna Barcham, Frank being the grandson of Henry Barcham. Born in Sydney, Heather joined the Bank of New South Wales [now known as Westpac] after her school years where she became secretary to the advertising manager. At the age of 20 she and a school friend embarked on the Hector, one of the Blue Funnel Line ships, to explore and work in Britain and Europe. These were the days of Aussies at Earls Court and Rolf Harris singing at the Australia Kangaroo Club. Arriving home after 18 months of travelling and adventure, it wasn't long before itchy feet were urging Heather to travel again. This time to Canada and the USA, where she was able to acquire a position at the Australian Consulate in New York where her cousin, Roy Barcham, was Assistant Trade Commissioner.

Primarily, Heather has worked as a secretary/personal assistant, and for many years was PA to the principal of a firm of chartered accountants in the city of Sydney, before retiring in 2000.

Ten years ago, Heather had the joy of meeting the son she gave up for adoption many years ago and during that time has seen him get married and start their own family. Heather has not married, but has had two long-term relationships.

Heather lives on the central coast of New South Wales, just north of Sydney, which offers a pleasant outdoor lifestyle that she enjoys. She is involved with local activities, and does voluntary work for the Red Cross as well as swimming, walking and tai chi.
